“Question-Driven Learning in STEM” Summer School

19 – 21 May, 2026, Valencia, Spain

Nowadays, student-centered learning has become a common goal for many universities and is often integrated into professional development programs for university teaching. Despite this, many lecturers remain hesitant to adopt active learning approaches, such as incorporating questioning techniques, fostering collaborative learning among students, or using teaching and learning methods such as POGIL or SCALE-UP. Instead, they frequently revert to traditional lecturing methods, particularly when teaching large classes or working within conventional classroom settings.

To tackle this challenge, the ECTN WG Eurolecturer Academy will organize the second 2.5-day Summer School “Question-Driven Learning in STEM”, following the very successful first summer school on this topic held in 2025 in Krakow. This event is part of the series on “Teaching and Learning in Higher Education STEM”, which focuses on specific educational themes in STEM higher education (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). This Summer School equips its participants with the knowledge and skills needed to confidently teach using questioning techniques and to effectively support collaborative learning among students.

The “Question-Driven Learning in STEM” Summer School will be held at the University of Valencia’s Faculty of Chemistry, known for its innovative research and cutting-edge education. Valencia is renowned for its harmonious blend of science, culture, and modern architecture, hosting the famous City of Arts and Sciences, a futuristic complex symbolizing innovation and learning.

The “Question-Driven Learning in STEM” summer school is organized as a pre-event to the ECTN General Assembly, which will be held at the same location. This independent event is open to all interested participants (see below). It provides a unique opportunity for those attending the ECTN General Assembly to combine both events in a single trip.

Join us in Valencia and immerse yourself in a city where academic legacy meets cultural charm!
